About the Artist

Marlene Plunkett is a talented Aboriginal Artist from Regional Australia. 

Born in 1957, Marlene now lives in the community of the Wiradjuri Nation in the Albury/Wodonga area.  Marlene is one of four children.  Her grandmother was from the tribal lands of Bunganditj, also known as Boandik Nation, Mount Gambier area, South Australia.  Marlene has six children of her own, and eleven grandchildren.

Marlene Plunkett's Waterholes is about the waterholes in traditional times would have been where the family clan groups would have made their camps.   The waterholes today, some of them have dried up due to damming and others have been dried up due to the over fertilisation of the land.  As Marlene was growing up, she thought that there was nothing better than a swim in the waterholes.
